The Bacchus University Student Long March through the National Land, which started in 1998,
is an event in which 144 university students – 72 males and 72 females – tour the whole land by foot for 20 nights and 21 days. The Long March was conceived and initiated by Chairman Kang Shin-ho, who wanted young, inexperienced university students to develop a strong mind, to become considerate of others, and to experience comradeship.
The Long March earned strong, favorable responses from its participants from its first event, and has established itself as a cultural event in which all university students want to participate. It is now one of the country’s foremost events traversing the national land. The Long March is so popular that the competition for participation in it is high — only one participant is taken per 100 applicants. Further, a Long March completion record is an advantage for anyone applying for a job in a company.
The Long March participants cover 550 km of the national land on foot for 20 nights and 21 days and get to experience beholding the country’s beautiful landscape. Also, they mingle with one another, laugh and cry together, build strong friendships, and create memorable moments. The biggest benefits that the participants derive from their participation in this event, however, are that they get to develop self-confidence after winning in their fight against themselves and they get to discover another side of themselves.
The participants obtain the unique experience of discovering their true selves and cultivating patience as they struggle with the sweltering heat and threatening downpours, allow the sunlight to burn their faces and bodies, endure the pain from the blisters on their swollen feet, and almost give up the march.
Dong-A Socio Holdings hopes that through this experience, university students will be able to cultivate the inner power that they will need to overcome the various obstacles that they will encounter, and will grow into strong and talented people who can contribute much to national development.
